Artist Idam’s work moves away from the familiar view of love as merely beautiful and sublime, and instead confronts the anxiety and faith, desire and wounds, order and chaos that coexist within it. For the artist, love is both healing and pain, an ambivalent experience that gives rise to anxiety even within stability. Through the language of “the death of love,” she draws out these complex emotions and reveals the inner conflict of a woman who wants to love, yet at the same time wants to escape from love.

The strong contrast between black and white, and between black and red, vividly visualizes the emotional extremes within her work. Rough textures and compressed compositions reveal moments of tension, obsession, and rupture inherent in the emotion of love. Idam’s work dismantles the romanticized image of love while powerfully bearing witness to the sensibility and struggle of a woman who, even within that chaos, ultimately seeks to protect herself.
