Joseph Balck’s The Road series frames life as a single path, capturing the moments in which we stand still, move forward, and begin again. For the artist, the road is not a linear route but a structure shaped by repeated choices, uncertainty, pauses, and restarts. Condensed forms and intersecting compositions reveal traces of movement and the accumulation of time, inviting viewers to reflect on the trajectories they themselves have passed through.
Produced in the same year, Mindfulness and The Road look in different directions while sharing a common attitude. While Mindfulness turns inward, approaching depression as an emotion to be acknowledged in the present moment, The Road extends this awareness outward toward the flow and direction of life. Balck’s work views life as a path where stillness and movement coexist, quietly asking where we now find ourselves along the way.
