Translate설학영 작가는 익숙한 풍경과 사물이 문득 낯설게 다가오는 순간에 주목한다. 반복되는 일상 속에서 무심히 지나쳐 온 대상들은 빛과 그림자, 시간과 환경의 변화에 따라 이전과는 다른 모습으로 모습을 드러낸다. 작가는 이러한 ‘자메뷰(Jamais vu)’의 감각을 출발점으로, 너무 익숙해서 오히려 보이지 않았던 것들을 다시 바라보고 기록한다.

Seol Hakyoung focuses on moments when familiar landscapes and everyday objects suddenly feel unfamiliar. Things we pass by without notice in the repetition of daily life reveal themselves differently through subtle shifts in light and shadow, time, and surroundings. Taking this sense of jamais vu as a point of departure, Seol revisits and records what has become almost invisible through familiarity.
In his work, capturing these fleeting moments also becomes a way of remembering what is destined to disappear. Light moves, objects are consumed, landscapes change, and moments become memories. By allowing these passing scenes to remain on the surface, Seol evokes personal experiences and memories once again. Beginning with the unfamiliar and arriving at the familiar through memory, this paradoxical shift in perception, together with his affection for transient moments, lies at the heart of Seol Hakyoung’s practice.
