"The Little Things in Life: 삶의 작은 것들"은 온라인 아트 플랫폼 아티스티와 신라스테이의 콜라보 프로젝트로서, 세계 각국을 여행하며 포착한 일상의 순간들을 주제로 작업하는 임수진 작가의 개인전으로 진행된다.

이번 전시는 여행하며 마주친 낯선 환경 속 일상의 모습을 표현한 작품들로 선정하여, 간과하고 지나칠 수 있는 삶의 사소한 작은 부분을 드러내는 데 중점을 두고 있다. 익숙함에서 오는 심리적 편안함을 느끼는 동시에, 호기심과 설레임을 유발하여, 소소한 일상을 새로운 시선으로 바라보게 한다. 작품은 단순히 장면의 재현을 넘어 작가의 감정적인 요소가 곳곳에 스며들어 있으며, 이는 관람자의 내면에 심리적 반응을 이끌어 내고, 작가의 따뜻한 시선과 교감하게 한다. 작가는 이미지의 시각적 질감에 주목하여, 유화로는 따뜻하고 포근한 느낌을, 수성 목판화에서는 나무 표면의 느낌을 살려 독특한 예술적 표현을 추구한다. 

전시가 선사하는 간접적인 여행은 작은 일상이 쌓여 전체적인 삶을 이루어 간다는 의미를 담고 있으며, 이를 통해 자신의 삶 속에서 잊고 지냈던 작은 것들의 가치와 의미를 재발견하고 그 소중함을 새롭게 인식하는 계기가 되었으면 한다.

"The Little Things in Life" is a solo exhibition by artist Lim Sujin, presented as a collaborative project between the online art platform ARTISTY and SHILLA STAY. The exhibition focuses on moments of everyday life captured during the artist’s travels around the world.

The collection of works highlights the often overlooked, seemingly insignificant aspects of life encountered in unfamiliar environments. It invites viewers to experience the psychological comfort of familiarity while sparking curiosity and excitement, encouraging them to see the ordinary through a fresh lens. The artworks go beyond mere representation, as Lim’s emotional presence permeates each piece, eliciting a psychological response in the viewer and fostering a connection with the intimacy of her perspective. Lim pays close attention to the visual texture of the images, achieving a unique artistic expression with the warm and cozy feel of oil paintings and the tactile quality of wood surfaces in watercolor woodblock prints.

This exhibition presents an indirect journey that embodies the idea that small moments in life accumulate to form the overall picture of life. Through this, we hope to provide an opportunity for viewers to rediscover and newly appreciate the value and meaning of the little things they may have forgotten in their own lives.

나에게 회화는 가시적인 것과 정신적인 것이 결합된 결과물이다. 일상 속에서 우연히 마주한 대상이 불러일으키는 감정을 회화적 조형 요소로 자유롭게 표현하며, 논리로 이해할 수 없는 경험에 공감하려 한다. 익숙한 풍경 속 숨겨진 이면을 기억하고, 이를 회화로 재현해 정서적 풍경을 만들어낸다. 매일 마주하는 풍경에서 느낀 종합적인 인상과 감정이 기억 속에 남아 감각을 자극하고, 이러한 인상들은 형태를 넘어 색과 감성으로 변모한다. 나는 대상을 세밀하게 묘사하기보다는 그 본질적인 인상과 감성을 중시한다.

천천히 주위를 둘러보며 만나는 풍경은 같은 자리에서도 시간, 빛, 색감, 감정 등의 요소에 따라 매일 다르게 포착되며, 이를 통해 명상적인 경험과 심리적 교감을 이루려 한다. 단순히 보이는 모습만을 관찰하지 않고, 주관적인 인지 과정을 통해 얻어진 전체적인 인상과 기억에 남은 잔상을 다양한 회화적 표현으로 풀어낸다. 내 작품이 관객들에게 그들의 경험을 떠올리게 하고, 감각과 기억을 자극하는 따뜻한 공간이 되기를 바란다.




For me, painting is the fusion of the visible and the psychological. I express emotions evoked by objects encountered by chance in everyday life through the pictorial elements, striving to connect with experiences that cannot be understood logically. I uncover the underlying aspects within familiar landscapes and recreate them to form emotional sceneries. Impressions from daily scenes remain in my memory, transforming into colors and emotions rather than forms. Instead of detailed depictions, I focus on capturing the essence and feeling of the subject.

By observing slowly, the same landscapes appear different each day, influenced by time, light, and mood. Through this, I seek to create a meditative experience and psychological connection. My goal is for my work to evoke the audience's memories and experiences, offering a warm, sensory space.
