In Hyun Yongan’s work, people and houses rarely exist as separate entities. Human figures dissolve into tangled lines, while old houses emerge within them or intertwine with trees and vines. Houses on the verge of disappearance become more than physical structures: they hold the time and memories of those who lived there and reflect the human desire to put down roots.
The overlapping lines blur the boundaries between people, houses, and nature. Just as a house awaiting redevelopment and the ivy clinging to its walls share the same fate, human life cannot be separated from its surroundings. Hyun Yongan’s work asks what we hold on to between what disappears and what remains, and what allows us to call a place our own.
