Kwon Yeju explores the deep-seated memories found within the ordinary daily life she encounters on Jeju Island—South Korea's largest volcanic island, renowned for its emerald waters, dark basalt rocks, and a unique quality of light that has long served as a muse for artists. Common places—such as the sea, gardens, and fields—are reborn through her touch into dreamlike spaces imbued with a warm energy. Rather than realistically reproducing the scenery, the artist focuses on capturing the unique atmosphere and fleeting emotions felt as time passes and light shifts. This work allows for the rediscovery of jewel-like beauty within familiar landscapes, naturally leading viewers to recall their own precious memories.
